I’m not perfect, despite my kick ass articles on this site, I do have things that I really hate. I thought I take a break from publishing long guides and bang out a fun one. Having been interested in human behavior for quite some time now, there are some things I really hate.
Instead of complaining on my social media, I decided to compile them into an article.
1. People that Disappear From Your Life Depending on Their Relationship
I never got why people seem to disappear from your life depending on their life circumstances. If they somehow manage to get a girlfriend boyfriend, they disappear. When they’re single again, suddenly they come back with a text.
‘Sorry, I’ve been MIA’.
I hate it when people justify their actions with a ‘I’m sorry’ over text.
Here’s a hint: Try something like:
‘Hey sorry, life got in the way. How are you? Hope things are well. Let’s catch up. Coffee is on me next Tuesday.’
Texting is not sincere. Inviting someone out for a catch up session over coffee is.
2. People Who Use Apologies and Self Awareness as an Excuse
I had a friend who I once drove around a lot. He would never make the effort to reciprocate or use the public transport. I started valuing my time and stopped ferrying him around.
On a couple of occasions, he said:
‘Marcus I know I’m lazy, I’m sorry, but could you still drive me home?’
No, you’re NOT sorry. You’re just using ‘sorry’ as a way to get what you want you lazy manipulative piece of shit.
3. People who Were Born in a Privileged Family Who Gloat Over Their ‘Success’
People who are in positons of authority, power or wealth that gloat over it not because they earned it but because they had some rich father, uncle or brother.
Shut up already.
This isn’t secondary school anymore. Fuck your ‘my father is this and that’. You aren’t your father.
Stop being a Daddy’s girl, you sissy.
4. ‘Rich’ or ‘Successful people’ That are A Holes and People That Suck Up to Them
Would you rather hang out with an obnoxious millionaire who inherited his wealth from his parents and spends his time gloating over his ‘success’ or a $500/ month start up founder who has the right set of behavior, right skillsets, spends his time acquiring knowledge and share his ideas altruistically?
Unless the obnoxious millionaire is a potential client or has a network that you can leverage on, you shouldn’t.
Hint: in my experience, someone who gloats rarely has that.
Here’s what they have: They have people who suck up to them surrounding them, who are normally lazy and unskilled. Hence, it’s a pervasive cycle.
Didn’t some philosopher state that you judge an ruler by the people he surrounds himself with?
To hell with them.
You and I all know people that change what they say in the situation when in the presence of someone ‘successful’. These two faced hypocrites.
I have never understood why people suck up to powerful or successful people. If you’re an employee bootlicking your boss, I can understand. If you’re not, what benefit do you get out of sucking up? A business connection? What quality of business connection is that?
- Is he going to mentor you?
- Is he going to give you leads?
- Is he going to be your business partner?
- How is his wealth going to magically transfer to you?
Shut up, put in the work, and educate yourself. I once lost a $10000 deal because I refused to suck up to my potential client. Fuck him.
I got this from my Mum, she’s a tough lady who takes ZERO shit from her employees. She can’t be bootlicked. It’s impossible. Not to mention that people of value only have respect for people who take the time and effort to demonstrate their value.
5. People who hate on you for trying out something new
Life is short, life is difficult and life is painful. The least the human experience can that it can and should be fun. That can come in the form of trying something different everyday. It makes living a lot more interesting.
In my experience, it’s the point of view of the people closest to you that haunts you, that you fear.
Okay I may or may not add to this list.
I have a couple others in mind:
Clients who think they own you once they pay you. Financial gurus that over promise returns. Scammy internet marketers that show off their jet planes. People who think Ben Davis shouldn’t be granted a NS deferment. People who think their country is the best in the world who hasn’t travelled abroad. Including Singaporeans. People who graduated from a prestigious University and think they are the ABSOLUTE best at EVERYTHING.
Okay, that’s enough of hate for now.
